Simon Smets

Simon Smets studied Classics in Ghent and Medieval and Renaissance History in London. In 2024, he obtained a PhD from University College London with a dissertation on Quattrocento letter collections. From 2019 to 2024, he was a researcher at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute in Innsbruck, where he completed an annotated edition and translation of Basinio da Parma’s epic poem Hesperis. In October 2024, he began a project on early modern rewritings of the Psalms at the Seminarium Philologiae Humanisticae of KU Leuven as a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO). He is on the editorial teams of Humanistica Lovaniensia and the Journal of Latin Cosmopolitanism and European Literatures (JOLCEL), and is an active member of the network Researchers of Latinate Identities, Cosmopolitanism, and the Schools (RELICS).
